What are dental crowns?
Also known as “caps,” dental crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that can be placed over teeth that have been weakened through trauma or decay.
What problems do dental crowns address?
Crowns can be used to protect teeth that are chipped, cracked, or broken, weakened by endodontic therapy (root canal), or impacted by severe decay. They can also be used with dental implants or bridges to replace missing teeth.
Will my dental crowns be obvious?
Dr. Michael Chung offers all-porcelain crowns. These crowns are colored and shaped to match adjacent teeth, enabling them to fit seamlessly into your smile.
Are porcelain crowns strong enough?
Porcelain is an incredibly strong material that is capable of restoring complete strength and function to impacted teeth.
Are porcelain crowns better than metal crowns?
Dental crowns made of porcelain offer all of the restorative benefits of traditional metal crowns, but are completely undetectable. Because they are customized for each patient, porcelain crowns perfectly complement individual smiles to restore function without compromising beauty – a distinct advantage over metal alternatives.
How long does it take to have porcelain crowns placed?
Porcelain crowns are placed over two office visits. During your first visit, Dr. Chung will prepare your teeth for their restorations and make an impression for our dental lab before fitting you with temporary crowns.
Once your restorations have been tailor made by our dental lab partners, you will return to our office to have them placed. The entire process takes around 14 days.
Is the placement of dental crowns painful?
Tooth preparation for dental crowns is done under local anesthetic, making it similar to the placement of fillings. However, if you are nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of having a crown placed, Dr. Chung would be happy to discuss sedation dentistry options that can help you feel more at ease during your treatment.
