If you are bothered by misaligned or crooked teeth when you look in the mirror, you have several options for enhancing your smile. An experienced cosmetic dentist will be able to determine the best type of treatment for crooked teeth in your case. The first step is to consider:
- The severity of your crooked smile
- The amount of money you want to spend on your smile
- The time you are willing to wait to achieve that picture-perfect smile
- How much of your smile you want to be your natural teeth, and how much want to cosmetically alter
Slightly Crooked, Little Cost, No Wait
If you have slightly crooked teeth, you can undergo a dental bonding procedure and walk out of our office with an immediately improved smile. With dental bonding, a tooth-colored resin is applied to your teeth, and works to reshape your natural teeth so they appear straight.
This minimally-invasive procedure is the most cost-effective way to correct slightly crooked teeth, but it only lasts an average of 10 years.
Minor to Moderately Crooked, Little Wait
A moderately crooked smile can be fixed with porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin shells that fit over the surface of your natural teeth. Dr. Chung places them in just two visits to our office.
Porcelain veneers are the most invasive procedure for correcting crooked teeth, as they require your natural teeth to be shaved down so the shells can be securely bonded over top. However, porcelain veneers replicate the appearance of your natural teeth better than a tooth-colored bonding resin because these veneers are translucent much like your natural enamel.
Severely Crooked, Longer Wait, No Cosmetic Alterations
If you do not want to make cosmetic alterations to your natural teeth but still want to correct a crooked smile, you may be a candidate for Invisalign. This treatment works by moving your teeth at their roots through a series of clear, custom-designed aligners. These clear, virtually invisible trays move your teeth over a period of months, each being worn for two weeks.
The aligners are removed while you eat, brush and floss, which allows you to enjoy your favorite foods and then clean your teeth thoroughly to prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, Invisalign does not require uncomfortable metal brackets and wires to be adjusted, which means you will spend less time at our practice.
