The Porcelain Veneer Process
Fairfax, Tysons Corner, and Reston, Virginia
Have you ever looked at your smile and all you notice is a bunch of small imperfections and it’s not quite as bright as it used to be? Have you tried a whitening procedure and it didn’t work out like you had hoped? You are a prime candidate for porcelain veneers, which Dr. Chung can do for you. Porcelain Veneers are one of the most popular and growing aspects of cosmetic dentistry. They won’t fix major problems with teeth but they are made to fit right on top of your teeth to give you a beautiful new smile. Veneers are basically a thin shell of dental ceramic that is stain proof and very durable, fitted on your teeth to cover the small imperfections.
Before you proceed with porcelain veneers, Dr. Chung will have to properly examine the color of your teeth, their alignment, and their size and shape to figure out if veneers are right for you. You will be shown before and after pictures so you will know what to expect. Porcelain veneers can:
- Whiten stained or discolored teeth
- Close gaps between teeth without the need for braces
- Repair chips and imperfections
- Straighten crooked or misaligned teeth
- Make teeth more evenly shaped
How Porcelain Veneers are Applied
The application of porcelain veneers takes only two visits.
- First Visit:
Dr. Chung will lightly buff the surfaces of the teeth that are receiving the veneers, grinding off enamel so that there is room for the veneer to fit. This causes minimal discomfort and anesthesia can be used. He will then take a mold of your teeth using dental impression putty and send it off to the lab so your veneers can be fabricated. During this two week period while your veneers are being made you might have to wear temporary veneers if your teeth are too sensitive. - Second Visit:
Your brand new custom made porcelain veneers have arrived, and Dr. Chung will temporarily place them on your teeth buffing down more enamel if needed and shaping the veneers to fit properly. This is very precise work that shows the artistry of dentists as well as their technical skills. When everything looks good to you and Dr. Chung, then veneers will be bonded permanently. Now you have new teeth and a bright new smile!
