What is endodontics?
Endodontics treats the pulp and other tissue inside of your teeth. Endodontic therapy is often referred to as a root canal. It can preserve your natural tooth even when the inside of your tooth has become decayed and damaged.
Why should I have endodontic therapy instead of just pulling the tooth?
Pulling a tooth is really a last resort. Preserving your natural tooth can prevent bone loss and gum shrinkage.
In some cases it is necessary to pull the tooth. When that is the case, Virginia cosmetic dentist, Dr. Michael Chung, can provide a dental implant to replace the root of the tooth and attach a porcelain crown to replace the tooth itself.
Will endodontic therapy be painful?
We have all heard horror stories about root canals, but when done properly by a qualified dentist, endodontic therapy does to have to be painful. In fact, if you need the procedure you are probably in pain right now. Endodontic therapy can put an end to that pain.

What happens during the procedure?
Dr. Chung will remove all of the decayed and damaged tissue from the inside of your tooth, including the nerve.
He will place a beautiful porcelain crown over your tooth; the crown is custom crafted to look and feel just like your natural tooth.
Because the nerve is removed, you will no longer have pain in that tooth.
Will I be able to chew and speak normally after endodontic therapy?
Yes, your tooth will be replaced with a porcelain crown that not only looks like your natural tooth, it will feel and act like it too, allowing you to chew normally and painlessly again. You will be able to go back to eating your favorite food in comfort. The procedure will not affect how you speak.
